System Requirements

Rayscaper for SketchUp has the following requirements on Windows:

  • SketchUp 2024, 2025 or 2026. Two features need SketchUp 2025 or newer, because SketchUp 2024 doesn’t have them: using the SketchUp environment as HDRI and converting SketchUp’s own PBR materials.
  • 64-bit Windows version.
  • Minimum of 4GB RAM.
  • The SketchUcation Tools extension, to activate a license.
  • Minimum of 4 physical CPU cores. Rayscaper renders on the CPU by default; the more physical cores, the faster it renders.

GPU rendering needs an NVIDIA GPU with compute capability 5.0 or higher (GeForce GTX 900 series and newer). On RTX GPUs, Rayscaper uses hardware ray tracing. You can check your GPU on the NVIDIA compute capability page.

When Rayscaper finds a suitable GPU, it renders on it from the first start; without one, it renders on the CPU. If a render fails on the GPU, for example with an old driver or a scene that doesn’t fit in its memory, Rayscaper renders on the CPU for the rest of the session and tells you why.

To turn GPU rendering off or on, open File > Settings… in the Rayscaper window and use Use GPU Rendering under GPU Rendering. If you have more than one GPU, you can choose which ones Rayscaper uses. Click Save changes to apply.

Rayscaper for Mac is in beta, see the Mac beta page. It needs:

  • A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Macs with an Intel processor aren’t supported.
  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
  • SketchUp 2025 or 2026.

It renders on the GPU of the Mac with Metal. The first render takes a few minutes longer, while Rayscaper prepares the GPU.
